PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

THANKS TO EVERYONE for helping us to meet the Grant Match Goal. It was wonderful to see the response to the membership dues request. Please encourage all your friends to come join our community organization and help us continue to improve our facilities, and programs for Ceres. (AND PAY THE ELECTRIC BILL)  Please call/send us your suggestions on what new programs/activities we should consider for the summer. It was so great seeing the Gym used this past fall by the youth and adult basketball teams and various community activities. I hope we can continue this summer.   Hope to see you all soon at the Gym and Museum.

REPORT ON SPAGHETTI SUPPER AND PRE-VALENTINE DANCE

Thanks to the hard work by all the volunteers; those who donated salad ingredients, bread, spaghetti sauce, and desserts; the "Moonshine Mafia" band; and all who attended, the benefit spaghetti supper and pre-valentine dance was a big success. Over $1,600 was raised for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life benefit. Even a short electrical power outage during the evening did not dampen the spirit of the attendees. The candlelit tables added to the romantic atmosphere. The Ceres Ruritan Club helped out by providing additional candles and allowing us to cook another pot of spaghetti noodles in the Community Center kitchen. Some of the guests ask, "When can we do this again?"

By the way, the installation of emergency lights has been put on the "TO-DO" list.

YOUTH LEAGUE BASKETBALL

During December and January the gymnasium was filled three evenings a week with youth playing basketball. The Association purchased a second Youth-Height goal for the two games or practice sessions each evening for the 60 youngsters in different age groups. There is no doubt that some basketball stars of the future started developing skills here. The community owes appreciation to the individuals who coached and supervised the youth.
