PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Once again we are looking forward to seeing many of you at the 6th Annual Ceres Homecoming and Association meeting. I would like to thank all those who are working so hard to make this event one to remember, all who donated gifts and sold raffle tickets, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans for co-sponsoring our raffle with a special matching grant, and all of you who will be traveling long distances to be with us.

Appreciation is also expressed to all who have helped on our many work, fund raising and improvement projects and those who made donations.

Officers for 2007 will be elected at our Homecoming meeting. We hope more of you will be willing to serve as an Officer, Director or on some committee. We need as many people as possible to be involved in the organization.

We look forward to seeing you on October 21st for the Homecoming. Don’t miss it!

FUND RAISING OPPORTUNITY

Ceres Alumni, in conjunction with Applebee’s, is sponsoring an ALL YOU CAN EAT PANCAKE BREAKFAST on Saturday, November 18, 2006, from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Applebee’s Restaurant, 1440 E. Main Street, in Wytheville. The breakfast includes all you can eat pancakes, syrup, link sausages, coffee, and juice at a cost of $5.00. Tickets, which must be purchased or reserved in advance, will be available at Homecoming, from any CAA officer or director or by calling 276 688-4450 or 276 682-4255. This is a great fund raising opportunity because the Association will receive $4.00 out of every ticket that is sold, and Applebee’s will furnish and prepare the food. All the Association needs to do is sell the tickets and serve the food. We hope that you will support the Association by purchasing tickets and coming to this breakfast. If you have questions please contact Buddie & Lorree Waddle or Betty Hubble.

MUSEUM COMMITTEE IS PLANNING AND WORKING

By Anne Britton

Many of you have already seen the new paint in the Shop. For those of you who haven’t seen it, it has been repainted in it’s original colors, and a handicap ramp has been added inside going up into the classroom

We have received so many items to add to our collection that it has become necessary to expand. We thank everyone who has been generous in giving treasures for others to enjoy.

A detailed design has been drawn to incorporate a "Ceres History" section into part of the shop, along with larger agricultural exhibits. We are already spending time sorting, cleaning, hoping to be near completion by Homecoming. We have found in the past that it is almost impossible to set specific work days because all of us have different schedules, so we are trying something new. As we can, two or three of us are getting together when we can manage a free day, and we work. There is a long list of things to be done, and we would appreciate any volunteers who can help out. Just give one of us a call and we will get together with you. Members of the committee are Jim and Anne Britton, Jonan Repass, Archie Atwell and Sue Repass. By the way, we only work around two or three hours at a time.
